The 110th Member of the Madrid System
Jamaica accessed the Madrid Protocol on December 27, 2021 becoming the 110th member of the Madrid System, now comprising 126 countries.
From March 27, 2022 Jamaican trademark owners will be allowed to obtain protection for their brands with the simple filing of only one international application, reducing the complexity and the costs to obatain an international protection.
Moreover, through the Madrid System it will be possible to designate Jamaica to obtain protection in the country.
The Madrid System
The Madrid System allows to obtain protection for a trademark in more than 120 countries with a single filing through the regional or national IP Office of a Madrid Member.
An international trademark allows the owener to deal with a single application and to pay single fees for filing, renewals and management procedures.
